• The 88 mm anti-aircraft gun was developed by Krupp as early as 1928.
• The cannon of the Swedish company Boford, which was secretly visited by German officials in violation of the Versailles Peace Treaty, served as the basis for the design.
• The FlaK 8.8 was the recognised weapon of the Second World War. Initially, it was the only weapon that could threaten the armor of heavy Russian tanks like the KV-1 and KV-2.
• With the 88 mm barrel, a number of related weapons were developed, either with or without a chassis, with the Würzburg portable radar, or as a main tank weapon.
• The gun was simple, reliable and accurate. It took the operator only two minutes to bring the gun to firing readiness.
• The average barrel life was 8,000-10,000 rounds.
• At the end of World War II, Germany even considered installing an 88 mm barrel on a heavy bomber in pursuit of a miracle weapon. However, such an idea never came to fruition.
• Over 21,000 were produced in many versions.
