You know that:

  • The German freight wagons of the OMMR 32 type were manufactured by Knorr-Bremse from the 1930s, but the largest manufacturer in terms of the number of units produced was the Czechoslovak company Tatra Studénka.
  • The wagon was developed on the basis of the standard interwar Type G wagon, which had a lower load capacity and a shorter length.
  • The OMMR 32 was used to transport various types of cargo, such as timber, coal, building materials, military supplies, or prisoners of war.
  • Modified wagons were also adapted as part of the BP 42 and BP 44 armoured trains deployed on the Eastern Front.
  • The number of units produced was huge, but exact numbers are not known.
  • The wagons developed for army purposes were deployed on all the railway lines of the Reichsbahn, but also in occupied territories to supply troops.
  • The SSYS 50T cars are also one of the symbols of the reconstruction of post-war Germany. The endlessly long trains consisting of these cars hauled away the rubble from the major German cities.
  • Many wagons were improvised and converted for civilian use and passenger transport. Some wagons with wooden superstructures even served as temporary housing.
