Did you know that:

  • The first flight of a twin-engine bomber according to RAF specifications took place on June 15, 1936.
  • The geodetic design of the machine was built according to the patented procedure and design of the aircraft designer and inventor of the bouncing bomb Barnes Wallis.
  • The bomber's skeleton was extremely durable, and aircraft severely damaged with a torn canvas cover returned from combat, but were still airworthy.
  • The soldiers nicknamed the bomber "Wimpy" after the chubby character J. Wellington Wimpy from the animated films about Pepek the sailor.
  • The Czechoslovaks from the 311th Bomber Squadron of the RAF also flew on Vickers Wellington.
  • According to the real events of the Czechoslovak Wellington garrison, which accidentally landed in the occupied territory near the city of Caen, the famous war film "Great Escape" was created, in which the pilot Arnošt Valenta was played by Steve McQueen.
  • In the UK alone, Wellington crews made 63,976 operational take-offs.
  • A total of 11,461 pieces were produced in various versions.
  • Only two machines have survived to this day?
