• Boeing was founded in 1916 by Wilhelm Böing, an American aviation pioneer with German roots, who later changed his name to William Edward Boeing.

• The cause of the accidents was the MCAS stabilisation system, whose software could literally send the aircraft crashing to the ground under certain circumstances.
• After 638 days of forced grounding and corrections to the control program, the 737s were able to take off again.
• The aircraft structure consists of 80% modern composite materials. Many of these parts are also manufactured in the Czech Republic.
• Boeing has so far produced more than 400 units in various versions.
• The price for the aircraft, depending on the version and equipment, is in the range of USD 121 000 000.

"When we flew the first production 737-8 in January 2016, we didn't have much fun. The work required full concentration from both us pilots and flight engineers who tested and calibrated the flight instruments on board. When we were returning from the several-hour test flight, everyone was tired. That's when I thought I'd cheer everyone up a bit and said into the on-board microphone: damn, gentlemen, I forgot my glasses at home this morning, but I'll try to find the runway. It was eerily quiet on board until landing. Unfortunately, no one understood my joke. I don't understand, I don't wear glasses."
