American light attack aircraft Beechcraft AT-6 Wolverine COBI-5905 Armed Forces 1:48

A kit of a single-engine, two-seat light attack aircraft AT-6 Wolverine designed for performing ambush and diversionary tasks and for training in the control of weapons systems. The assembled model has a fixed landing gear, a rotating propeller and an opening cockpit cover for seating a specially modified pilot figure. GBU-12 guided missiles and LAU-131 rocket launchers are suspended under the wings. 1:48 scale kits bring the same joy, but more shelf space. The model is made under an official license from Textron aviation.

Did you know:

  • The T-6 aircraft is the successor of the no less famous Pilatus PC-9.
  • When the US Air Force was searching for a new trainer aircraft for novice pilots, it launched the "Joint Primary Aircraft Training System" competition in May 1994.
  • The winning aircraft had to meet a long list of conditions such as high agility to simulate combat and stress conditions, instrument compatibility with training simulators, low operating costs, and also, simply put, "foolproofing" to protect the crew from fatal mistakes made by rookie pilots.
  • The first aircraft were delivered to flight training centers and schools in the year 2000.
  • Production is still ongoing, and so far, more than 800 units have been manufactured in several variants.
  • Beechcraft users include not only the United States but also Canada, Greece, Israel, Iraq, Morocco, and Thailand.
  • Several accidents have occurred over the course of operation. The reason is certainly not the quality of the aircraft. All accidents were caused by pilot error during training.
  • If you live in areas under the training aircraft flight paths, we might advise you to stay indoors during training hours — but that advice is ineffective. In the summer of 2018, a pilot error caused an aircraft to crash near the Laughlin base into a house. The plane and the house’s garage were destroyed. Luckily, the crew ejected safely and suffered no injuries.
  • The Wolverine version is designed for weapons systems operation training or for performing strike and diversionary missions.
  • The aircraft fuselage is reinforced and the engine power increased to 1177 kW.

Commander of Special Operations General Richard D. Clark to the US Congress:

“This aircraft is what our country needs. It is a complementary asset to the US Air Force, suitable for low-intensity mission targets. Sometimes we need to trim the grass in the corner of the yard. We're not going to bring a combine harvester for that, are we?”
