You know that:

• The development of a modern tank was started by Vickers Defense Systems as early as 1986 as its own initiative.
• When the Vickers company presented the project to the British Ministry of Defence, it initially faced negative reactions. In the end, the Ministry set 11 parameters, after the fulfillment of which it was willing to negotiate with the manufacturer on further development.
• The main requirements included heavy armor later known as CHOBHAM, a 120mm gun, maintaining a high degree of mobility, a crew survival system and a precision point-and-shoot firing system.
• All requirements were gradually met and in 1991 the first 140 tanks were ordered.
• The entire machine is designed as a universal platform that can be further developed. The upcoming upgrade is the Challenger III.
• Challenger tanks are among the top in the world. Many parameters and equipment are the subject of state secrets, but we know that the tank commander has at his disposal a panoramic sight capable of finding the target before the turret rotates.
• The passive night vision system, which according to the crews is like "alien" technology, will probably be interesting.
• Challenger 2 tanks are currently in service in the armies of Great Britain, Oman and Ukraine.
• The price of one machine is about €4,000,000.
• About 450 units have been produced so far in several versions.

"In 2003, we were one of the first tank units to participate in the battle for Basra in Iraq. At the edge of a built-up area, we came under enemy fire. We took a total of 14 RPG hits, but not one shot did any serious damage to our tank, however we had to retreat out of the open to a safer position. When they saw our tank mechanic after two days, he declared that only another Challenger can destroy a Challenger. However, the joke took on a new dimension when, a month later, our Challeger destroyed another Challenger due to communication confusion. It's the only tank we've lost in Iraq."
