You know that:

  • The decision to develop a heavy tank fighter was received by the German company Krupp in August 1942.
  • Development in wartime conditions proceeded rapidly and as early as 20 December 1943 the prototype was presented to Hitler as a Christmas present.
  • Series production began in early 1944, at a time when German industry was already facing a shortage of raw materials of all kinds.
  • The high-quality, heavily armed, agile and well-armoured machine was built on the proven Panther tank chassis.
  • The Jadgpanther was factory-coated with a thick layer of Zimmerit anti-magnetic paint, although the Red Army had virtually no magnetic anti-tank mines, or possibly only a negligible amount of the captured HHL3 type.
  • The Jagdpanther was the answer to the quality Allied armoured vehicles deployed in Normandy, but later most of the units produced went to the Eastern Front.
  • The installed PAK 43 gun was a real terror due to its high firing accuracy. The probability of hitting a target on a 2.5x2m battlefield at a distance of 1000m was 85% and 43% at a distance of 2000m.
  • The Jagdpanther's effectiveness was well documented during operations on the Eastern Front, when Schwere Panzerjager Abteilng 563 destroyed a total of 58 Soviet tanks in 10 days.
  • The tank fighter also had a weak point, with the first units produced requiring the gun to be dismantled in order for mechanics to get to the gearbox.
  • A total of 415 units were produced in several versions.
  • There are currently three operational machines around the world.
