American Light Tank M24 Chaffee COBI 2543 - World War II

You know that:

• The original official name of the tank was Light Tank M24 and only the British renamed it Cheffee after General Adn R. Chaffee.
• The experience of the M3 Stuart and Lee tank crews from the African campaign was taken into account in the development of the tank, and so in 1944 an exceptionally good light tank was created, which is still in service in some armies today.
• The M-24 was manufactured between 1944 and 1945 by the American Cadillac and Massey Ferguson company, which today supplies agricultural and specialty tractors.
• A special lightweight 75 mm gun was developed for the light tank, inspired by the gun used on the B-25H Mitchell bombers.
• The M24 chassis was so good and reliable that it was used to build many other tracked vehicles.
• It was replaced by the M41 Walker Bulldog tank in the 1960s after it was retired from US service.
• The M24 starred in the science fiction film "The Day the Earth Stood Still".
• Today you can see the tank at the Hellenic Military Museum and the Bovington Tank Museum.
