British Super Heavy Tank TOG2 COBI 2544 - World War II
Kit of prototype of British super heavy tank "The Old Gang" TOG II* in field camouflage. The assembled model has a rotating turret, a gun with adjustable aiming, opening engine cover, gearbox and turret hatch. The tank tracks are functional and the model can be easily rolled on non-slippery surfaces.
The super-heavy TOG2 was designed by British designers in 1940 as a tank to be deployed in the event of fighting on the French mudflats ?
The design of the tank was influenced by Sir Albert Stern of the Special Warfare Vehicles Committee, who brought personal experience of fighting in the First World War to the design, but the development of modern tanks was already moving in a different direction ?
The machine was named after a group of developers who called themselves "The Old Gang" ?
The TOG2 was based on the interwar and actually obsolete TOG I tank technology ?
The tank was fitted with a diesel engine, but the direct drive of the tank was provided by two powerful electric motors ?
With an overall length of over 10 meters, the machine was capable of crossing wide trenches like those built in the First World War ?
The first demonstration run took place in March 1941 ?
In view of the developments on the European battlefields, a heavy and clumsy tank was not needed and therefore never went into series production ?
The project was finally terminated in 1944 ?
A working prototype can be seen at The Tank Museum Bovington in the UK ?
