You know that:

  • What the Mini was to the UK, the Ford T to America and the VW Beetle to Germany, the Citroën 2CV was to the French.
  • The French people needed a cheap and reliable vehicle and so the designers were given the task of developing a car that would carry 4 countrymen in clogs and straw hats, a sack of potatoes. A car that can cross a ploughed field without breaking the eggs in the bag and reach speeds of up to 60 km/h with a maximum fuel consumption of 5 litres per 100 km.
  • The first 250 units were produced in 1939, but subsequently destroyed to prevent them from falling into the hands of the advancing German army.
  • Only 4 of the 1939 series have survived and if you are one of these lucky people, you are owed an estate of unprecedented value today.
  • At the 1948 Paris Motor Show, during its premiere, Citroen received so many orders that the car had to wait two years.
  • The 2CV was produced in various versions for an incredible 42 years until July 1990.
  • The Citroën did not have a fuel gauge, but a "dipstick" to measure the level of petrol in the tank.
  • The first 375cc engines were started with a cable, like a lawnmower today.
  • The car's soft suspension and swinging ride were known as "Duck" or "Slug".
  • In total, some 5,114,966 were produced in various versions.
  • Car mechanics say it takes a whole day to accelerate a 2CV to 60 km/h, but only half an hour to strip a car down to the studs.
  • There are about 450 cars registered in the Czech Republic.
  • The last one produced on 27 July 1990 was the CHARLESTON.
