You know that:
- Lancia first introduced the Delta in 1979. The body designer was none other than Giorgio Giugiaro himself.
- In 1980, the Lancia was even named Car of the Year.
- Interesting circumstances led to the construction of the HF Integrale racing special. After the initial enthusiasm, the production cars began to develop some unpleasant problems. Almost every unit suffered from electrical faults, frequent engine failures and rapid corrosion of the bodywork, which was made from poor quality sheet metal imported from Russia.
- Sales were declining and the financial situation threatened the existence of the car company. Something had to be done. That something was the creation of a racing stable and the conversion of the car to the HF Integrale version.
- And it was a hit. Lancia became a six-time World Rally winner and the car once again attracted worldwide attention. Many of us still remember the iconic shots of the Lancia rocketing over the horizon, only to disappear into a corner in a controlled skid the next second. The car was incredibly fast and agile.
- Mass production has also undergone a significant transformation. The Russian sheet metal was taken straight to the scrap yard, the cars received a new engine, new interior and a completely new electrical system.
- The quality of the cars improved considerably, but despite all the successful changes, the Delta never achieved the expected sales.
- In total, only 47,757 first-generation Delta cars were produced.
- The last two units produced were shipped to customers in Japan.
